New Upscale Spanish Restaurant, MAD, in Houston

Just a few days ago, the luxurious River Oaks District shopping complex in Houston got a new Spanish restaurant. MAD, as its called, comes from the team behind the

successful fine dining restaurant BCN, and this new locale’s specialty will be tapas and paella.

This new upscale restaurant is a project from Ignacio Torras and chef Luis Roger. According to Torras, “Luis and I have always aimed at sharing the love of Spanish cuisine and culture with Houstonians, showcasing a culinary experience that is part exceptional interior design and innovative cuisine… With MAD, we hope to continue highlighting the evolution of Spanish culinary experience and spotlight the traditional tapas and paellas, which strongly label Spanish cuisine around the world,” according to houston.culturemap.com.

MAD will offer six or seven different paellas each day, which will be prepared over a wood-fired stove.

Other menu highlights include dishes like scallops with yuzu-ginger vinaigrette and crispy acorn-fed Ibérico ham; asparagus tempura with Romesco sauce; Segovian-style suckling pig empanadas with potato, onion, and mango-apricot chutney; squid croquettes with nutmeg alioli; and sautéed baby eels with purple potato chips and sunny-side quail eggs. MAD also prides itself on serving craft cocktails, outstanding gin and tonics, and offering a wide selection of top-flight wines.
